Ben currently works at the University of Lincoln and is a Digital Education Developer in the Digital Education and Student Life Team, responsible for the College of Arts. He supports and promotes the adoption of digital tools for teaching and learning, delivers CPD workshops for staff across the University and supports the design and development of University learning platforms and technologies. Ben was previously a student at the University of Lincoln, graduating with a First Class degree in Media Production (2013) and an MA in Digital Media (2015). Since then he has held various roles at the institution from supporting digital for the professional services to teaching in the Lincoln School of Film and Media.
From 2014 – 2017 Ben ran his own digital agency, Tall Lime Ltd, from an office at Sparkhouse Studios on campus and worked with a range of clients in the UK and internationally on web design, app development and graphic design projects. In October 2018 Ben gained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and in July 2019 he graduated with a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) from Falmouth University, Cornwall. This programme is particularly notable for being one of the first teaching qualifications to be delivered entirely via an online distance learning platform and a focus of study alongside traditional teaching methodologies, was the pedagogical approach to online and blended learning. Ben’s research interests include the application of digital within pedagogy and the history and culture of the Southern United States, with a particular focus on country music and Americana. To this end, Ben has been a member of the Country Music Association of America since 2014 and presented a Country Music radio programme, Ben’s Country Music Show, on stations across the UK since 2008.
As the Digital Education Developer for the College of Arts, Ben supports and promotes the adoption of digital tools for teaching and learning. He also supports the day to day management of the VLE, Blackboard, including building custom integrations for the system and writing new styles and design layouts. Along with the other Digital Education Developers, Ben offers teaching and learning support for a variety of digital tools, leading on the use of Poll Everywhere, the University’s live audience response tool. Since 2017, Ben has led on a number of innovative projects within the team including designing and building the AM I HIRED ® platform, the Digital Education Chatbot and the Countdown to Lincoln app. Since August 2019, he has sat on the review panel for the internal HEA programme at Lincoln, reviewing applications for D1 and D2 fellowship.

Ben Atkinson is a writer, presenter and designer.
He has a broad range of experience and interests which stretch across the creative industries, from broadcasting to writing, design and development. Ben is the author of two novels, the presenter of a syndicated country music programme which airs on stations across the UK, and an established web developer and graphic designer, with a number of national and international websites, branding projects and mobile apps to his name.
